441 body and a bright, happy, or serene countenance can only
442 result from the free admittance into the mind of thoughts of
443 joy and good will and serenity.
444 On the faces of the aged there are wrinkles made by
445 sympathy; others by strong and pure thoughts; and others
446 are carved by passion: who cannot distinguish them? With
447 those who have lived righteously, age is calm, peaceful, and
448 softly mellowed, like the setting sun. I have recently seen a
449 philosopher on his deathbed. He was not old except in years.
450 He died as sweetly and peacefully as he had lived.
451 There is no physician like cheerful thought for dissipating the
452 ills of the body; there is no comforter to compare with
453 goodwill for dispersing the shadows of grief and sorrow. To
