699 bucolic and open mouthed; shall wander under the intrepid
700 guidance of the spirit into the studio of the master, and after
701 a time he shall say, 'I have nothing more to teach you.' And
702 now you have become the master, who did so recently dream
703 of great things while driving sheep. You shall lay down the
704 saw and the plane to take upon yourself the regeneration of
705 the world."
706 The thoughtless, the ignorant, and the indolent, seeing only
707 the apparent effects of things and not the things themselves,
708 talk of luck, of fortune, and chance. Seeing a man grow rich,
709 they say, "How lucky he is!" Observing another become
710 intellectual, they exclaim, "How highly favored he is!" And
711 noting the saintly character and wide influence of another,
712 the remark, "How chance aids him at every turn!" They do
713 not see the trials and failures and struggles which these men
714 have voluntarily encountered in order to gain their
715 experience; have no knowledge of the sacrifices they have
716 made, of the undaunted efforts they have put forth, of the
