Making Math Matter: It’s a Way of Life with Infinite Possibilities

Session 213 will be held in 202 C from 1:00-1:50.
Bridging Prior Knowledge to New Learning Through Real-World Connecons

In this hands-on session, educators will explore strategies to uncover prerequisite skills, connect them to
current standards, and create engaging math tasks rooted in real-world applicaons. Walk away with
ready-to-use acvies, student reflecon prompts, and visual tools that make learning more meaningful
and more connected. Grades PreK - 5

Paris Mountain Math Trail: Making Math Mater

Join us for a session that truly shows how Making Math Mater is a way of life with infinite possibilies!
Just a short drive from downtown Greenville, Paris Mountain State Park offers a beauful mountain seng for this
unique outdoor session. This 1,275-acre park, one of South Carolina's oldest protected areas, is well-known for its
               large trees and picturesque lake.
This is your chance to explore a Math Trail—a mathemacal journey—right on a park path! We will be walking an
easy trail around a small lake, finding examples of mathemacal concepts and problems developed by elementary,
middle, and high school teachers from across South Carolina.
Why atend? We hope you'll not only learn new math concepts but also gain fresh ideas for instrucon and start
seeing the infinite possibilies of math in the natural world.

Important Note: Parcipants will be walking on an outdoor trail. Please wear appropriate shoes for walking the ¾
mile trail. Parcipants will also need to pay the state park entry fee.

Everyone will meet their SCCTM guides in the second parking lot aer entering the park on the le, across from the
park center/ stone bathhouse that is in front of the lake. You’ll gather there, walk across the road and begin the
math trail, walking the Lake Placid Trail, which is less than a mile long.

The walk takes you on a loop around the lake where you will be able to spot wildlife as well as see the historic
               spillway, during your mathemacal adventure.
