Desert Festival :Jaisalmer
J
aisalmer is a breathtaking heritage city that lies in the heart of the Thar Desert near Rajasthan's remote western
border, surrounded by sand dunes. Jaisalmer would be just any Rajasthani town but, looming over the city,
towering nearly 100 meters over the city and apparently rising out of the desert haze, is the spectacular golden
Jaisalmer Fort. Made of yellow sandstone, the fort inspires wonder at its beauty like perhaps none other in India.
It has the appearance of a giant sandcastle shimmering in the desert heat like a mirage that will soon disappear.

The Desert Festival is held in Jaisalmer, usually in the month of January or February, every year. The duration of the festival is
three days and it comes to an end on Poornima, the full moon day.
The main purpose of the Desert Festival is to display the rich and colorful culture of the state of Rajasthan. Dressed in vibrant
and colorful attire, the locals dance to the tunes of lingering ballads of heroism, romance and tragedy of the folk heroes.
