                                                                                                                       Editorial

True – men will be men.

rue --- 'men will be men. ' The blurb in an advertisement seeks to describe the basic trait of men vis a vis females so precisely and
hilariously that it doesn't hurt the sentiments of either gender. But there was a big hue and cry after the Governor of one southern
TState patted a female journalist on the cheek in reply to a question she put up to him during a press conference. The journalist took
offence to the uninvited act of the Governor and the Governor drew flak from various quarters for his act.
But there are females who take pride in getting kissed on the cheek by Ambassadors at receptions. These females term it their culture due
to which they kiss them. Unfortunately they forget their own culture in a bid to please the foreign diplomat. On the part of the diplomat, it
is an advantage that he takes using his position and the female getting overawed by his post. I know of such females who feel proud in
getting kissed on the cheek by a foreign diplomat. I happened to ask one what if the saliva from the diplomat is contagious. She replied that
there is no touch of saliva, it is only superficial kiss.
The act is common with diplomats from South America who, it seems, find Indian women enchanting with their exquisite features and
their senior posts. The fault lies not with the diplomat as he is simply carrying the legacy “men will be men” forward.
Diplomats from the Arab world restrain from this act, even not shaking hands with the not so modern Indian women. The Americans and
Europeans also keep a safe distance. Maybe it is their culture. But the Indian culture or the Hindu culture is completely different . Here the
young girls are supposed to be greeting elders with folded hands or bow down as if touching feet of the elders, they are not supposed to be
embracing men or kissing them even on their cheeks.
What is then the culture that those females follow who get kissed on their cheek by foreign men?
Here the Arab culture is better behind a veil.
Why do only Latin American diplomats have this habit of kissing females ? Why don't they realize the feelings of the men with whom such
  women come?
Not only that such women stretch out their neck like a giraffe on seeing a man approaching them for a kiss, merely to oblige him. This is
giving a wrong signal to the man who can, if he gets a chance, might even kiss the female on her lips.
As for me, I would prefer the HIndu culture to be followed by females. How can they let just any man kiss her on the cheek? Wash it soap,
wash it with detergent, antiseptic or anything stronger, the saliva will stay. How disgusting? How can her husband tolerate the impression
of saliva when he comes near her?
It is for the man to understand the feelings of the other man who is the husband, but as I said before “men will be men”. Smooch! There
goes one. If uninvited kiss can be planted, then can rape be far behind? A kiss by a man on any part of a woman raises sensual feeling?
What kind of a respect is being shown by the man to the woman, whatever culture it may be.

                                                             Punishment for Rape
The discussion jumps on to rape for which the country has earned notoriety. The lawmakers have chalked out a law which spells out death
penalty for raping a minor. The question, however, remains on the implementation of the new law. What good is the framing of the law if
the culprit is not punished or if the culprit is able to escape punishment due to some loophole. Worse is the corruption which lets the
culprit scot-free. There are instances where the cops have allegedly taken money to loosen the noose around the culprits' neck. Worse is
the recent case where one of the parent is said to have settled the rape case for 20 lakh. The survivor happened to be adamant and reported
the matter to the police. The parent then was arrested by the police for letting go the case for money. What would you call this, selling one's
daughter for money. This can be termed forced prostitution. The girl's life was spoilt.
Capital punishment is not the reply to a cruel deed as rape which blots the entire life of the survivor. A better punishment for the culprit is
what is called 'an eye for an eye'. The culprit should be bobitised
