ANTIGUA OFFERS A RANGE OF SPORTING ACTIVITIES: FROM SAILING, DEEP-SEA FISHING, WATERSKIING AND KITESURFING, TO GOLF, HIKING AND MORE!
SAILING
The trade winds make sailing fun for beginners and more experienced sailors. You can play around in a Sun sh in a protected bay or charter a bareboat to explore the coastline. Boat charters may be arranged through your hotel or through one of the marinas. Try Ondeck in English Harbour, Dockyard Drive (T. 562-6696) who specialise in exclusive private charters.
For sailing enthusiasts why not join the Antigua Yacht Club on a weekly or monthly temporary membership giving the option of sailing their Laser and Sport 16 eets or taking sailing lessons from experienced instructors (T. 460-1799). On the waterfront on Dockyard Drive is the National Sailing Academy, an accredited RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Training Centre where visitors are welcomed onto certi ed courses. GOLF
Antigua has two golf courses: the Cedar Valley Golf Club (T. 462-0161), located near St. John’s, offers a magni cent, 18-hole, par 70, championship course amidst mature, tropical trees with vistas on hills of the Caribbean sea and providing an enjoyable and very challenging golf game. It accommodates players of all skill levels, offers special discounts to cruise ship passengers and yacht crews, has advance individual
tee times available and welcomes tournaments and outings. On the west coast, the 18-hole, par 71 Jolly Harbour Golf Club (T. 462-7771) offers an exciting and challenging course with clubs and carts for hire and quali ed professionals for lessons. Both have a bar & restaurant, shops, equipment and cart rental.
KITE SURF & WINDSURF
Considered one of the best places in the world to kite surf, Antigua and Barbuda both offer ideal conditions for beginners and the more experienced. Based at Nonsuch Bay and Green Island, 40 Knots offers kite and windsurf rentals and lesson packages. Max, Chris and Irene, the owners, are IKO certi ed instructors with the latest teaching methods and highest safety standards (T. 788 9504). Jabberwock Beach is the place to watch the experts practice this spectacular sport, take lessons with Kite Antigua (T. 720-5483) or windsur ng lessons with Windsurf Antigua which also offers equipment rental.
SURF & PADDLE BOARD
