HIKING
Enjoy hiking in Antigua either on your own or by joining an organised hike. There are 14 kilometres of nature trails in the National Parks (Of cial Commonwealth Walkways dedicated to HM Queen Elizabeth) with beautiful scenic landscapes and rare geological features. The trails are marked and easy to nd. (see trailsonthenextpage)OnSaturday afternoons the Antigua Hash House Harriers (m.facebook.com/ HashHouseHarriers) explore remote areas of the island with a sense of adventure and lots of laughs. The EAG Environmental Awareness Group(T.462-6236)alsoorganises interesting eld trips - check www.eagantigua.org for the schedule.
For great guided tours try the locally run Footsteps Rainforest Hiking Tour (T. 460-1234), offering hiking in the rainforest, one of Antigua’s most beautiful and valuable conservation areas.
Remember to wear a hat, put on sunblock and take plenty of water. Pay attention to ‘our’ cassie, a beautiful-looking plant which can dig into your shoe or scratch you as you pass, really ‘making its mark’!
DEEP-SEA FISHING
The best deep-sea shing is off the south coast although good catches are to be had in the calmer waters
to the west and north. Marlin, tuna, barracuda, wahoo and mahi-mahi abound in our waters. You can hire a fully equipped sport shing boat at any of the marinas. Try Captain Frank Hart of Overdraft, a fully equipped and spacious 40 ft sport shing boat, who knows Antigua’s Atlantic shing grounds better than most! Fishing charters are available for four, six and eight hours with exible departure times (T. 720-4954).
