“My lifeline”
I had been overworking to escape the depths of despair of this new marriage.... that we were having difficulty was a surprise after the initial courtship.. Work was the obvious choice over picking up again- life had gotten sweet without my enemy king alcohol.. “Boy met girl on AA Campus” .... we had the tiger by the tail.. Some of my ancilary obligations took a backseat to what was immediately in front of me;; my Grapevines colected dust....
The day finaly came when we were able to take that long- awaited vacation to the ‘‘land of smiles’’,, Bali,, Indonesia.. Unfortunately,, what had unfolded jjust prior to our departure was a breakdown of ginormous proportions.. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from the war in Vietnam,, had messed one more time with my wonderful husbands'' peace..
We arrived at our tropical oasis;; an open waled,, dream home with al the accoutrements,, jjust steps to the beach.. I was in Paradise,, my husband in Hel.. The PTSD had shut him down to jjoyandthevitalityofliving.... Iwaslefttopracticeacceptance..... gratefuly able to enlarge my spiritual connection by praying for the pause-and catching up on some 4 months of my Grapevine subscription.. You may as I have since early sobriety,, glanced through your Calendar of Events in the back of your ''Meeting in Print'' from time to time with visions of "someday",, or,, "if only"....
And then TAA DAA,, there it was in black and white....The Calendar of Events was talking to me!!
A conference in Bali- that same weekend,, steps up the beach.... My tribe- The ChipAways are uniting--- (insert grateful heavy sigh) Continued on page 14..
