Message in a Bottle
I found a message in a bottle. It told me to take a sip.
It said I’d find new courage and never be shy again.
I found a message in a bottle. It told me I’d pass my test.
It said I can talk in front of the class and that I could ignore all else.
I found a message in a bottle. It told me that I could dance.
It said Ginger Rogers had nothing on me, I could cha-cha, sway and tap.
It told me I sounded like Beyoncé when I did Karaoke at night.
So I took the bottle with me, whenever I needed to feel strong.
I found a message in a bottle. It told me I have great strength.
It said to go up the stranger and ask him to be my date.
It told me to take him home one night, that he will be the last.
I found a message in a bottle. It told me it would drown my sorrows.
One more swallow and all would be well, nothing one gulp can’t restore.
As I lay in bed, bottle in hand, I wondered if I’d been deceived.
Perhaps these weren’t the best messages, better ones I should seek.
It wasn’t the bottle to suggest, that I find a better read.
A room full of people, none holding a bottle, did have a message for me.
They said, “We’re glad you’re here, and please, just take a seat:”
I saw no messages in a bottle, and thought there might be a chair for me.
