Relocation facilitates further growth
VENTILATION AND DRIVE technology com- pany, Ziehl-Abegg, has opened a new subsidiary in Nieuwkuijk to facilitate further growth in Bel- gium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg.
The company's CEO, Peter Fenkl, said that due to substantial growth in turnover and staff num- bers the previous office and warehouse in Hedel had become too small.
The managing director of Ziehl-Abegg Bene- lux, Tino Oirbans, said the new building offers
room for further growth and provides a more modern, professional environment for custom- ers and employees.
The German-based company has produced electric drives for more than 100 years and is a global leader in bionic fans, that is fans with blades inspired by nature.
During the opening ceremony Oirbans attrib- uted the team's success to engaged and well quali- fied sales engineers who partner with customers.
The new building relies on a heat pump instal- lation equipped with ZAplus fans while the roof of the building has 700 solar panels.
Oirbans said clean room technology and big data centres are an important part of the business.
“Hundreds of fans are needed for a new data centre and they are running 24 hours each day, the entire year which is why its important to in- stall fans that consume less energy,” he said.

Madew to lead Infrastructure Australia
THE GREEN BUILDING Council of Australia’s long-serving leader, Romilly Madew, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Infrastruc- ture Australia.
Madew’s appointment was announced by the Infrastructure Australia Board and welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack.
An independent statutory body, Infrastruc- ture Australia prioritises and progresses nation- ally significant infrastructure through research and advice to all levels of government, investors and owners.
Chair of the GBCA’s Board of Directors, Rod Fehring, said during her 13 years at the helm of
Infrastructure Australia CEO, Romilly Madew
the GBCA, Madew has driven a sustainable building movement that has changed the shape of Australian communities and cities.
“Romilly has built the GBCA’s global reputa- tion as an influential advocate and change agent. Under Romilly’s stewardship, the GBCA has be- come a trusted advisor to government, and a global leader among the 70-strong green build- ing council network,” Fehring said.
“When Romilly joined the GBCA in 2006, just a handful of projects had achieved Green Star rat- ings. Today, we boast in excess of 2,250 certified projects.”
More than 37 per cent of Australia’s office space is Green Star certified and six per cent of Australia’s workforce head to a sustainable office each day. Upwards of 1.3 million people visit a Green Star-rated shopping centre each day and 48,000 live in Green Star-rated apartments.
“Behind these statistics and recognition lie Romilly’s incredible level of dedication, passion and enthusiasm for the built environment, and for a better Australia. On behalf of the Board of Directors and the hundreds of companies she
has worked with, I thank Romilly for her service,” Fehring said.
“She leaves the GBCA in a very strong position, and we look forward to working with Romilly as she makes a lasting impression on infrastructure and development in this country.”
Madew said she is “proud of the GBCA’s leader- ship in supporting collaboration across the prop- erty industry to deliver more productive, sus- tainable cities and communities“ pointing to the established influence of the GBCA beyond the commercial office sector to leadership in the de- livery of sustainable infrastructure through Green Star rated airports, hospitals, train sta- tions, and major urban renewal projects.
“It has been a privilege to work with a vision- ary board, outstanding organisations, inspiring individuals and talented colleagues over the last 13 years, and I am confident the GBCA will con- tinue to play a central role as a sustainability champion and change agent,” she said.
The GBCA Board of Directors has appointed People for Purpose (www.peopleforpurpose. com.au) to assist in the executive search process.
