CBI was established in 2012 under the direction of Sonya Shepherd. It is the union of two significant WA establishments: the ‘Terri Charlesworth Ballet School, (founded in 1960 by WA’s first prima ballerina, Terri Charlesworth (OAM, Cit. WA), and the ‘Ballet Centre of WA’, (founded in 2004
by Ms Charlesworth’s eldest daughter, Sonya Shepherd).
COURSES
Fulltime program:
CBI offers its full-time classical ballet program to students between the age of 9 and 18-years-old. CBI currently holds 65 students over 7 levels in our full-time program. The course has been designed to nurture and develop students, preparing dancers for a professional career. The unique program also combines academic studies, allowing students to complete Year 12. As a Registered Training Organisation (51417) CBI offers Certificate III and IV in Ballet Performance.
Main subjects: Classical ballet (Vaganova method), contemporary dance, Spanish & character dance, music appreciation, dance history, biomechanics and health studies.
Students graduate with a West Australian Certificate of Education, ATAR completion and university eligibility, along with a nationally recognised qualification. Primary and high school academic studies are provided through SIDE (School of Isolated and Distance Education), with qualified teachers on site to assist. Practical dance classes per week: This is a 6-day per week course.

2019 we welcome former Principal from The Australian Ballet, Leanne Stojmenov and former Senior Artist from The Australian Ballet, Marc Cassidy, to complement our already experienced and qualified staff.
Audition date: Auditions are held annually in September, however private auditions with the Director can be arranged throughout the year.

COURSES
The CB121 Junior Program is a new addition to CB121 for ages 4-14. Small classes (up to 12 students) Quality training is led personally by Gillian Revie and no previous experience is required. Gillian is devoted to helping children love the art of ballet through inspirational teaching and safe practise.
Our Part time program is for students who wish to transition towards full time training. Bespoke programs can be tailor made around schooling, other dance commitments or activities, any amount of half or full days within the full time timetable can be arranged.
Our Classical Ballet 121 Rehabilitation Program runs alongside the Full Time Program and caters for students with injuries who wish to return to full training stronger and fitter than ever. The program includes In-House Physio/ Individualised Rehab management/ Structured Load Monitoring/Personal Mentor and Coach/ Private Reformer Classes/Team Communication/Safe Practise.
The Classical Ballet 121 Full Time Program is for talented students age 13-18. Applicants are accepted into the school by audition and are placed in levels according to their ability. Classes begin at 8.30am and finish at 3.30pm Monday–Friday to avoid burn out and to give time for academics. The length of this course all depends on the individual. With our flexible structure, students are encouraged to take the time needed to achieve their personal goals. Education: Our physiotherapist works closely with the faculty to educate students in safe practise and body maintenance. Students are enrolled in Distance Education

Possible career options: Successful graduates have danced in prestigious dance companies throughout the world including; The New York City Ballet, The Australian Ballet, The West Australian Ballet, Cullberg Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, The Australian Dance Theatre, Ballet de Monte Carlo, Bayerisches Staatsballet, Hamburg Ballet, Dresden Semperoper Ballet, Nacho Duato, Aalto Ballet Theatre Essen, Malandain Ballet Biarritz and Berlin Staatsballet, Nederlands Dance Theatre 2, Het Nationale Ballet, Tasmanian Dance Company, Moulin Rogue, Theatre National de Prague, Badisches Staatsballet Karlsruhe and Singapore Dance Theatre.
Classical Ballet 121 resides a short walk from St Leonard’s station. Director Gillian Revie, former ballerina with The Royal Ballet, guest teacher for the Royal Ballet School, guest artist with The Australian Ballet and Patron of bbodance offers personal guidance and equal attention to every student. In addition to the rigorous world class ballet training, focus is given to
physical and mental wellbeing. Our dedicated team of teachers (see biogs on website) nurture confident individuals who understand their strengths and limitations which leads to positive and realistic decision making for their futures. CB121 is a young school passionately committed helping students secure positions in National and International Companies, Universities and Vocational Schools. Gillian has helped students secure places at Royal New Zealand Ballet Company, Royal Ballet School, English National Ballet School, Houston Ballet Academy, JKO New York, Joffrey Chicago, Royal Winnipeg, Dutch National, Central, Elmhurst, QPAC, WAAPA, Trinity Laban, Ajkun Ballet Theatre and VSB. 100% of all RAD
