MACHINERY MATTERS JANUARY – FEBRUARY 2023 ■ 2
A year of global and domestic engagement
Welcome to our first edition of Machinery Matters for 2023, I hope that everyone found some space to relax and enjoy time with family and friends over the holiday period.
With both the federal and the Victorian elections now finalised, the commitment of continued Government investment in Australian manufacturing has been reinforced, with the food and beverage sector earmarked as one of the key pillars in Australia’s economic success while also being a major contributor to sustainability/ environmental improvement programs which extend across a wide area of impact, from our industry’s role in developing and utilising sustainable packaging, to improved energy use and programs to reduce food waste.
It is expected that Government commitments will lead to greater investment and focus on the educational pathways needed to continue generating the resources and skills that will be required to support an industry that provides an exciting, fulfilling career for the next generation in automation, digital innovation, robotics, machinery design and manufacture, packaging design and materials.
APPMA is committed to continue working closely with Government and alliance partners to ensure the industry is well represented, and made aware of opportunities relevant to the processing and packaging sector.
Exhibitions around the world
With AUSPACK 2022 successfully behind us, and overseas travel re-emerging, the opportunity exists in 2023 to re-unite on the global stage at events such as Interpack in May, Propak Asia in June, and Pack Expo Vegas later in the year. We will also take the opportunity to incorporate learnings from these exhibitions into our own APPEX 2024 event. APPMA’s responsibility, commitment and priority is to provide industry representation, events/exhibitions and support services to
members and the broader industry. The transition of AUSPACK to APPEX is
not just a name change. It is APPMA, your association, responding to member and industry feedback. APPEX 2024 represents the most significant demonstration of the Australian industry’s desire and willingness to come together as “one industry” to provide a stand-alone, premium Australasian processing and packaging expo that supports the total industry – that’s across machinery, ancillary equipment, materials and packaging, food processing and industry services. One show, run by the industry for the industry, all under one roof.
I am proud to say that the industry response and support for APPEX has seen exhibitor and space allocations already exceed AUSPACK 2022 in total, including increased company representation from all sectors of the processing and packaging industry. With the exhibition planned to deliver a unique experience not previously seen in Australia, this is an exhibition not to be missed. For those companies still sitting on the fence, I encourage you to explore your stand options now and be part of APPEX 2024.
I look forward to seeing everyone during 2023 at APPMA and other industry events. Mark Dingley, Chairman
