ILLEGAL UNLICENCED HEAVY VEHICLE REPAIRS
BRIEFS
THE AUSTRALIAN HEAVY VEHICLE
Repairers Association (AHVRA) is concerned that over recent months many instances have been reported of the authorisation of heavy vehicle smash repairs into car repair shops.
AHVRA says that this contra-
venes the NHVL law (National
Heavy Vehicle Law) as applies to NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania, the Motor Dealers and Re- pairers Act 2013 and the Code of Practice.
The NHVL 2014 states only licensed repairers may repair and certify heavy vehicles.
A suitably licensed repairer is a per- son who holds a Motor Vehicle Repairers Licence issued by NSW Fair Trading (or corresponding interstate agency) and such licence class authorises them to re- pair the vehicle and damage type (i.e. heavy vehicle smash repairs or light ve- hicle repairs). Interstate licensed repair- ers must hold or employ a person who holds the relevant qualifications as set
GOLDEN ARCD
ACCIDENT REPAIR CENTRE DANDENONG
(ARCD), Victoria has been awarded I- CAR Gold Class Collision status.
“The team at ARCD entered the Road to Gold program twelve months ago in order to meet the Holden requirements for their
out in clause 34 of that regulation.
The CoR (Chain of Responsibility) Laws 2018 were expanded to set an overarching responsibility to ensure the safety of heavy vehicles, ensuring a heavy vehicle repairer has the capability, training and equipment
to carry out repairs to industry standards. AHVRA wants to remind insurers and repairers that it is illegal and damaging to spray paint outside of an approved
spray booth.
There are severe penalties for break-
ing the law, employers must ensure the health, safety and welfare of all employ- ees and visitors. These penalties for non-compliance range up to $3 million and/or five years imprisonment.
approved repairer network. They have been regular participants in the I-CAR on- line virtual classroom courses and train- ing organised through their paint suppli- er, PPG. It is great to see another Holden repairer gain the Gold Class accreditation and continue to set high standards within the industry” said I-Car's Gary Wood.
“ARCD is delighted to have successfully obtained the I-CAR “Gold” shop rating. We have found the process both informative and challenging due to the changing vehi- cle structures, metals and repair require- ments," said ARCD's Theo Pagiamtzis.
"The team of people at I-CAR, from the office staff to the instructors, have been helpful, supportive and a wealth of knowl- edge. We as a team found the training a great team building exercise. It has been educating, refreshing and extremely re- warding both individually and as a com- pany to achieve this accreditation."
