Ideally the coating you applied should be easy to peel off or will wash off with water. However, you may find this won’t come off cleanly and you spend the next day re- moving the old-spray/brush-on coating and may even require a razor blade as some of the material won’t peel/wash off. In fact, you may even notice some over- spray has seeped through to the wall. Time
to sand again and possibly respray.
After doing this process you may also no- tice a few leaks, where you may have nicked the seals with the razor and possibly some rust around the bottom edges of the booth walls, due to the water used to wash down the booth coating. You may need to respray
as well.
So after all that, you may consider calling
your 3M sales rep and asking about 3M Dirt Trap you have seen advertised and find out how this could help save you time. Your 3M rep will let you know that 3M Dirt Trap is a specially engineered, adhesive backed, white, non-woven material designed to help protect your booth surfaces (both walls and concrete floors). It traps dirt, dust and over-
spray, providing a bright white work area, while eliminating the onerous chore of scraping and cleaning the booth surfaces, reducing your shop’s down time for main- tenance. Once the Dirt Trap becomes load- ed with overspray, the cleaning process is as simple as peeling away the film (in less than five minutes), then replacing the film (completed in approx. 1.5 hours), then you can get straight back to painting.
Not only will you notice that your booth remains newer, but you’ll be get-
ting less dust in your paint work. The unique construction of the Dirt Trap which is made from a non-woven materi- al entraps overspray/dust during the nor- mal flow of air in the booth, holding it tight in its web. Consequently, you spend less time on de-nibbing. If you were to rub your hand down the Dirt Trap mate- rial, you will notice no dust collects on your hand.
