     Screen research shows printed textbooks are preferred
Screen’s American operation is sponsoring research, together with the Book Manufacturers Institute, into physical-vs-online learning, and the results are startling.
More than 80 per cent of parents believe that physical books are a better way of educating their children. Some 88 per cent want books to continue to be part of classroom education.
The report notes that, “Parents’ frustrations with online learning have been amplified during the pandemic lockdown. There’s a greater temptation for children to wander away from
their studies, and onto more amusing platforms when learning on a digital device, the study found. More than 80
per cent of those surveyed indicated that print materials would definitely improve home instruction.”

The Truepress Jet520HD is a high- definition digital inkjet press suited to the production of on-demand books in full colour. A mono version, capable of 150 metres per minute, is available for trade paperbacks and black-and- white textbooks. A range of finishing and binding options are available from companies such as Hunkeler, Horizon and Technau.
When running Screen’s SC Inks,
the full-colour 520HD can print on standard offset stocks, with the results, Screen says, indistinguishable from offset lithography. 21
