trophy. To us, it’s actually about show- ing people what good looks like and allowing other people to learn from these examples,” she said, explain- ing that the PIDAs were established to educate and train people to under- stand what best practice translates to in packaging on shelf; and to pro- vide companies with the opportunity to look at previous winners and to learn from them, through case stud- ies, interviews and technical articles developed by AIP about the winning examples.
“The designs that are entered are representing a trend, and a point of view. They are good barometers of the
key trends shaping the industry,” she said, citing several 2021 WPO win- ners, such as Zero Co, O F Packaging, Melbourne Coffee, Pana Organic and Zipform Packaging, as examples.
A new opportunity for entrants this year, said Kelton, is the video option, which enables entrants to submit a video of their entries, to help the judges see “how the packaging works, how it opens, how it feels, and includes all the features to be showcased.”
“Everybody should enter the Awards; I say that with all sincerity. I think it’s an absolutely fantastic pro- gram,” she said, advising people to encourage colleagues to enter too.

Nerida Kelton: PIDAs a step to global stage
“Is there a quiet achiever in your business or in your community that deserves recognition?
“Or has someone come up with a fantastic circular economy program or a product stewardship program that should be in the spotlight?
“Do you know any inspiring young people that deserve to be recognised? “Think about those people around you in your networks contributing to the industry, because this is what the
PIDAs are here for.
“We, the organisers of the PIDA pro-
gramme, are here to recognise those people. People are what makes pack- aging happen,” she said. ■
