for indoor air quality and ventilation due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
“Indoor Air Quality has never been so impor- tant which is why we have extended our air purification technology, Streamer, into more of our products.”
All Daikin systems with Streamer Technology carry the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice blue butterfly symbol, including air purifiers, Alira X and Zena split systems.
In lab testing, Daikin’s Streamer Technology was found to destroy 99.9 per cent of mould and allergens in 24 hours, and 99.6 per cent of pollen in just two hours.
“Daikin’s Streamer Technology is an active air purification system that improves indoor air quality. It works by using charged air particles to destroy pollutants like pollen, mould and other allergens such as dust mites from the air,” Tosh said.
Also on show at the Daikin stand was its recently released VRV Round Flow Cassette with Sensing & Streamer offering maximum comfort, energy savings and superior air purification.
A key feature of the stand this year was Daikin’s newly-launched flagship VRV R Series Heat Recovery System. Since the launch of the first model in 1982, Daikin’s VRV systems have continually evolved to achieve the best in com- fort, efficiency and reliability.
The new VRV R Series has undergone a com- plete model change with improvements in design, ease of installation, reliability, comfort, heat recovery and energy savings.
Visitors were given a first hand look at the reduced footprint of the unit.
Daikin Australia national product manager, Raj Singh, said this new 6th generation model, VRV R Heat Recovery System, includes a new “P” Type Compressor that delivers superior performance on full load, as well as part load conditions.
“The new enhanced design includes single casing modules up to 24HP that help to reduce the overall space required for mechanical equip- ment and the number of electrical and piping connections,” he said.
Single modules starting at 8HP capacity are now available in three sizes thanks to the addi- tion of a large capacity XL chassis with 22 & 24HP (67.0kW) capacity that sits at just 1,750mm wide x 765mm deep x 1,660mm tall. This repre- sents a four per cent reduction in total footprint and 11% reduction in weight compared to the 5th generation VRV Series.
“We’ve also made the design simpler for the installer with a number of knock out panels to allow flexibility in the installation for both the piping and the wiring”, Singh said.
The improved sealed electrical box design with an ingress protection rating of IP55 provides for

high dust and moisture protection. It includes a new service window for access to the multi- functional digital display for easy commissioning and troubleshooting, and separate wiring and piping for quick access and installation.
Increases in refrigerant piping length and maximum height difference make the VRV R even more suitable for large scale buildings.
Refrigerant piping lengths of up to 165m are possible and the maximum height difference between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit has been extended to 110m which is an improve- ment of 20m from the 5th generation model.
The ARBS Exhbition also provided an oppor- tunity for Daikin to celebrate 40 years of manu- facturing in Australia.
Daikin’s Australian Made Ducted Systems and Applied Air Handling Units were on display as well as its Light Commercial, Ventilation, Air Treatment and Refrigeration ranges, Smart Controllers for homes and buildings and the WMT Lubricant Free Magnetic Bearing Chiller with R1233zd(E) HFO refrigerant.
The WMT chiller dominated the stand. This Magnetic Bearing Two-Stage Centrifugal Chiller (WMT) offers greater efficiency and reli- ability, reduced operating and maintenance costs, and low vibration and sound levels com- pared to traditional oil centrifugal.
The lubrication- free Magnetic Bearing Drive System eliminates complex oil, refrigerant lubri- cation and mechanical friction which enhances chiller efficiency, increases performance and reduces maintenance.
Kinetically balanced back-to-back impellers help the compressor to operate smoothly at lower noise levels by balancing the axial force while the Permanent Magnet Motor eliminates rotor excitation loss to deliver superior motor efficiency under high-speed operation.
Adaptable to various operating conditions the Dynamic IGV + Dynamic Speed Drive keeps the compressor running smoothly to optimise energy usage.
