 Wellman Packaging
Wellman Packaging, the Sydney based manufacturer of rigid plas- tics packaging, has been solid in support of FMCG since its com- mencement in 1973. Continuously focused on quality, innovation, and reliability, Wellman has always invested in the best European equip- ment available, positioning itself firmly as a knowledgeable, medium sized partner to global Tier-1 FMCG brands with long term, multi-decade relationships with the likes of Colgate-Palmolive, Nestle, Goodman Fielder, Kraft-Heinz, and MaynePharma.
Walking through Wellman’s injection and blow moulding facilities, with the white walls, stainless steel piping and equipment from lead- ing suppliers including Netstal, Husky, Arburg and Uniloy, it is not difficult to see why the company has been so attractive to major brands who look for solid operators, like Wellman, that compare and compete on a global scale with other Tier-1s.
Wellman’s high-end production platform, from closures to bottles, preforms and thin- walled packaging, is bolstered by imports from long-term European partners, including a wide range of fliptop caps and trigger sprays. These partners, like Weener, typically also supply Wellman’s customers in other markets, making Wellman a well-rounded, solution rich and globally integrated supply partner.
Turning over approximately half in the food sector, with the remainder shared between household care, personal care and pharmaceutical, Wellman holds multiple patents, some licenced internationally and has continued to remain rel- evant to the ever changing needs of the market through design and
innovation. Referring to his
journey with Well- man Packaging, CEO and owner Craig Wellman says: “It was a

I see a future of conscious manufacturing where the environment is the first thought, with FMCGs produced with packaging and processes that do no harm.”
great opportunity to re-enter the business after an early career with PwC and having grown up on the factory floor, to unleash the vision of what the business is now today. I have a love of plastics packaging and designing for FMCGs, and of manufacturing and technology generally, which together with the strong tech- nical education I received from a young age, enabled me to bring a high level of innovation to our brand owner family. This ethos is now embodied in our team of talented people built over decades.”
Recent examples of the company’s innova- tion, as reported by PKN earlier this year, include a food grade 90 per cent Recycled Plastic Squeezie Sauce Bottle for ketchup and preforms made with 100 per cent food grade recycled rPET as seen on shelf in the Colgate-Palmolive Eco range of dish soaps and surface cleaners.
These initiatives come as Wellman is rebranding under the slogan “Sustainable Plastics – Future Thinking for Plastics
Packaging”, signalling a significant expansion of the company’s sustainability program called E-ZEROTM.
Wellman says: “I see a future of conscious manufacturing where the environment is the first thought, with FMCGs produced with packaging and processes that do no harm. A future that is “Better-Than-Carbon-NeutralTM”, where the environment is better off because we put away more carbon than we create, and plastics packaging becomes a positive news story. E-ZEROTM is our holistic sustainability platform that enables brand owners to realise this mission and is the foundation stone of our business plan of the next 50 years.
“Recycled and renewable feedstocks, car- bon sequestering, zero GHG, zero waste and more. E-ZEROTM is zero environmental impact and is a game changer. Thank you PKN, as always, for shining the light on the industry’s stewardship and leadership efforts on this important topic and congratulations on your 60 years. A wonderful achievement!”
