  Pact Group, Cleanaway, and Asahi signed a memorandum of understand- ing in February to jointly develop a plastic pelletising plant in Albury/ Wodonga on the New South Wales- Victoria border. The facility is to pro- cess plastic bottles and other recycla- bles into flake and food-grade pellets, which will be used as raw material for food and beverage packaging.

  Amcor CCO Michael Zacka dis- cussed the tectonic shift towards sustainable packaging with PKN. Among other things, he discussed the often-contradictory objec- tives inherent within sustainabil- ity and waste-management tar- gets. If plastic is removed, more food waste and increased carbon emissions can result. He also spoke about Amcor’s progress towards changing the packaging and plastics system.

                Seabin, a system for capturing maritime waste, smashed a fund- raising goal of $1m in four days. The Seabin cleans marinas and ports by filtering the water, remov- ing particles as small as micro- plastics. For its fundraising cam- paign, the Seabin Project partnered with the Australian equity crowd- funding platform Birchal. Seabin was raising capital to scale produc- tion and operations.
 TerraCycle’s cir- cular packaging programme called Loop is to launch in Australia in 2021. PKN sat down with Terra- Cycle CEO Tom Szaky, who said
the idea behind Loop is to fundamen- tally change the packaging market. He said the goal was to move from selling the package every time an item is sold to selling the packaging as a service.
