PRINTEX REVIEW
Labels & Packaging shine at PrintEx
Held once every four years, this year’s PrintEx trade show had its own separate labels and packaging area. For label printers, though, the main action was in the half dozen digital label print solutions either on show or being promoted by the vendors around the arena. Wayne Robinson and Jake Nelson report from the show.
“It is really great to work with innovative customers like Peacock Bros. They worked with us to test and trial the applications, try out the new inks and software, and suggest how we could get the most out of the design elements,” he said.
XEIKON TRANSFORM WINS HOT PICK
Key digital print solutions developer Xeikon won a Print21 Hot Pick award at for its Transform web platform. Transform is a portal which allows current and potential Xeikon custom- ers to determine the right solution for their needs by answering a few questions, said Trevor Crowley, sales general manager for Australia and New Zealand at Xeikon.
“It gives us a better understanding of their requirements, and allows us to put together an idea of what will suit their business better.
“By asking them specific ques- tions, it makes it easier for us to deep dive into what their business looks like now and where they think it will end up,” he said.
According to Klaus Nielsen, the new Asia-Pacific director at Xeikon, the portal gives customers valuable insight into the Xeikon platform.
“Users have an opportunity to see what sort of machine would suit from Xeikon’s point of view, and it provides insight into how viable it is for them to transfer from traditional to digital technologies,” he said.
HP TEAMS UP WITH PEACOCK BROS FOR PACKAGING DISPLAY
HP Indigo user Peacock Bros collabo- rated with the manufacturer to showcase a variety of packaging ap- plications on the HP stand. On dis- play were labels, stand-up pouches, shrink sleeves, and flow wraps, all printed on the HP Indigo WS6800 and HP Indigo 8000 Digital Presses at Peacock Bros.
Andrew Crump, operations direc- tor at Peacock Bros, said many of the applications on stand are not typically featured in a narrow-web label environment.
“These are new industries that the HP Indigo Digital Presses have allowed us to enter. We thought it
was a good idea to include these types of products and to showcase not only the cool stuff you can do with the technology, but the broad variety of labels and packaging you can produce,” he said.
Some features of the products displayed included HP Mosaic technology on labels with metallic substrates; digital versioning, as well as silver and invisible yellow ink on flexible pouches; and HP Collage on flow-wrapped cookies.
Mark Daws, director of labels and packaging at HP Indigo distributor Currie Group, hailed the success of the Peacock Bros collaboration as a tribute to the converter’s imagina- tive spirit.
