Endoline marks 40 years
Endoline Automation, represented in Australia by Metric Engineering Solutions, recently celebrated 40 years in operation. PKN reviews

CUSTOMISATION AND GROWTH
With engineering still firmly at its roots, Endoline continually rede- signed its systems to incorporate unique technical features, to aid manufacturers and overcome any packaging automation issues.
For instance, the company’s unique dual opposing vacuum technology was first launched in 1990 to ensure that each case was opened positively from both sides, to eliminate dam- age to packs, which was particularly important in the forming of shelf- ready cases.
Also, the booming snacks indus- try, and demand on manufacturers to produce greater product varieties and sizes, led to Endoline creating the 744 fully-automatic random case sealer in 2012. This system went on to set new standards in high speed, random case sealing, and was sold to snacks manu- facturers across the globe, remaining a flagship, award-winning Endoline machine to this day.
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
The pandemic expedited demand from manufacturers to automate, and Endoline today boasts a strong order pipeline.
In 2019, Endoline entered into a stra- tegic partnership with Fanuc UK, and launched a sister company, Endoline Robotics Limited, in a move to meet the ever-growing demand for fully- automated end-of-line systems, which increasingly require robotic solutions.
“To this day, this passion for engi- neering and manufacturing is at the heart of Endoline and will drive us into the future,” Andrew Yates says.
“Even after all these years, our products remain industry leading, and in terms of our people, we have some dedicated, loyal and hardwork- ing employees, many of whom have spent their entire careers with us.”
Today, Endoline, through customer sales and distribution relationships, hasapresenceinover20countries. ■

In Australia and New Zealand, Endoline machinery is distributed by Metric Engineering Solutions. Cameron McKenzie, general man- ager of Metric Engineering, says, “Endoline creates well engineered products that we are proud to rep- resent. In addition, the support we receive from the Endoline team is sec- ond to none. We celebrate with them as they mark this 40th milestone and look forward to a long, successful partnership.”
THE EARLY DAYS
Back in the early ‘80s, UK manu- facturers outside of the automotive industry were starting to wake up to the benefits of automation. Within the food sector, the

Yates’ semi-automatic case sealer, which is still widely sold by Endoline today, enabled manufacturers to seal cases at speed and with pre- cision. As demand for automation increased, Yates and his team engi- neered new systems to support these manufacturers.
From semi-automatic to fully- automatic systems, Endoline became synonymous with creating high-qual- ity end-of-line machinery, with Ron achieving wide respect across the packaging industry.
In 1990, having moved the business to larger premises, Yates was joined by his son, Alan. From here, the com- pany went from strength to strength,
