ON THE COVER: AUSPACK 2019
BIGGEST EVER AUSPACK TAKES OVER MELBOURNE As predicted in this issue’s preview, packaging trade show AUSPACK 2019, held in Melbourne at the end of March, turned out to be the biggest AUSPACK show ever.
Mark Dingley, chairman of the Australian Packaging & Processing Machinery Association (APPMA), which owns AUSPACK, said, “This year’s event just broke every record. The entire Packaging and Processing Week has been a fantastic success.
“This year we had the largest floor space we’ve ever had – it was close on 20,000 square metres. Not only did floor space sell out nearly six months before the event, but we attracted 105 international exhibitors, which is the most ever and a 15 per cent increase compared with the previous edition.”
Almost 8000 trade visitors attended the show, which ran alongside the AUSPACK
Business and Industry Conference and the APPMA Awards
of Excellence.

Patties Foods’ Bairnsdale bakery continued to operate as a specialist site for savoury baked goods, while the Pakenham site was tasked with producing the company’s chilled ranges, as well as sweet options from the fruit production line.

Roast chicken, deli salads, bakery items, frozen desserts and drinks were listed on the online food delivery app, with the range expected to expand over time.
A trial of the service launched at Coles in Sydney’s Pagewood, and UberEats described it as the “next evolution” of its platform.
Coles also announced plans to boost its efficiency through the development of two new
