Group. Manufacturing for Defence in both Australia and the US, Karen has travelled the SME path to export success and working across a range of industries. While running this busi- ness, she also on the advisory board of the Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC) and other companies as well.
“Thank you so much, it really is quite extraordinary that I have this to cherish,” Dr Stanton said at the awards ceremo- ny, accepting her trophy. “I am ridiculously passionate about Australian Defence Industry. I’ve worked in this space all of my life and this is such an amazing honour and I appreciate it so much! I’m looking forward to celebrating along with all the other winners here today.”
She takes her place alongside our previous Hall of Fame winners of Shireanne McKinnie and Liz Cosson for a life- time of solid work in the Defence space. We’ve recently chatted to both our past Hall of Fame winners about their experiences in the ADM Podcast, with insights into how things have changed since they began their careers.
MINISTERIAL SUPPORT
Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds also took part in the event via a statement to the audience.
“The Women in Defence Awards recognise women’s cru- cial role in Defence. As a Reservist for nearly three decades, and now as Australia’s second female Minister for Defence, I have a clear a message to all in Defence and the ADF, as well as to the Australian community.
Our capability to serve and protect our nation’s interests relies on the diverse skills and expertise of all our people. Women make a vital contribution in Defence to our nation’s interests. It gives me great pleasure to see these awards held.
“Particularly this year...
A year which has been extraordinarily difficult and dis- ruptive...
A year in which Australians have faced catastrophic bushfires. A global pandemic. A global recession. And esca- lating tensions in our region.
“And – as these awards demonstrate –women are at the centre of Defence leadership and response. We have shown resilience, pragmatism, and the capacity to adapt.
