Australia’s quest to acquire a nuclear-powered submarine has taken more twists recently, with the former Defence Minister – now Leader of the Opposition – suggesting he was negotiating for the early delivery of two US Virginia-class boats while in office; and a growing call from former submariners and defence analysts for an interim conventionally-powered submarine.
