WHAT’S COMING UP
APPMA NEWS
Members
directory
released
An influx of new members over the past 3-6 months has resulted in APPMA company memberships hitting a record high of 128 full members. We take this opportunity to welcome new members and announce the release of our updated APPMA Members Directory, which provides a comprehensive insight into each member company enabling potential customers to easily identify and contact members with product and/or service enquiries.
The full directory is available on the APPMA website where visitors can either search for members
directly or download a full copy of the directory. Hard copies of the directory are also made available at international and domestic events and exhibitions attended by the APPMA, such as Pack Expo, ProPak Asia and Hort Connections.
APPMA members include manufacturers, distributors and importers of
packaging and processing machinery who are suppliers to industries such as food, beverage, dairy, meat, poultry, seafood, confectionery, bakery and fresh produce.
The Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association (APPMA) represents Australia’s leading packaging and processing machinery and allied components companies. Contact the association at www.appma.com.au or via phone on 1300 787 122, with membership and general enquiries.
AUSPACK 2022
17-20 MAY
MELBOURNE CONVENTION
& EXHIBITION CENTRE
The Australian industry’s leading packaging and processing trade show has been postponed from its original May 2021 date to May 2022. AUSPACK owner APPMA, supported by its membership, believes Melbourne 2022 is ideally placed to provide the scale and breadth of event that this industry needs as it gears up for the post-Covid recovery.

APPMA & Fight Food Waste CRC Update
Identifying and understanding how the Australian packaging and processing machinery sector can contribute to, and support, new opportunities to reduce and/or transform food waste is the aim of the project being undertaken by the FFWCRC in conjunction with the APPMA. In isolation, a single initiative will not address the food waste issue at scale, however, collaboration across the APPMA membership and broader packaging and processing industry can.
At the end of June, all APPMA member representatives were encouraged to participate in the project’s Stakeholder Engagement Survey. The results from the survey helped the project team understand industry perceptions, experience and needs to inform research and support the industry in reducing food waste. This research added to the insights gained from a literature review, providing analysis of major trends and opportunities for the sector that reduce and transform food waste as well as identifying opportunities for future research projects and partnerships.
The APPMA, in partnership with the Fight Food Waste CRC, is proud to announce that Phase 1 of the project, is now available to the public, by way of a Baseline Review Insights Report. This report presents a baseline literature review across academic and industry publications and provides a landscape study of relevant technologies and their (potential) impact on food waste and loss. The report includes information on technologies
throughout the supply chain that focus on the reduction and/or monitoring of microbial activity for extension of shelf life for the food product as well as the emerging Industry 4.0 technologies such as neural networks, blockchain, Internet of Things, sensors and RFID, and robotics.
The full report is now available via the APPMA and Fight Food Waste websites.
