Trends, Technologies & Expert Advice
Visual Impact Seminar Series will cover the hot topics
One of the most valuable reasons to attend trade shows is for the learning opportunities they provide. Visual Impact Sydney is set to deliver value this year with a varied seminar program covering everything from education and training, business advice, expert tips, to trends, technologies and emerging opportunities. Here’s what’s planned...
DAY 1 | WEDNESDAY 3 MAY
On the first day of the expo, the seminar program will kick off with arguably one of the most important sessions of the entire show, a Round Table on Sign Industry Education presented by the Australian Sign & Graphics Association (ASGA).
As well as discussing the current landscape facilitator Mick Harrold from ASGA will quiz the panel including Ben Eaton (Education Committed Chair for Visual Connections), Damian Nielsen (Education Committee Chair for ASGA), Paul Richards (TAFE NSW) and John Watters (Australian Skills & Industry Partnership – AusSIP) on what is being done to attract the next generation of sign industry professionals and achieve outcomes in this space.
This will be followed by an Industry Leaders Panel featuring leaders from a broad cross-section of the industry including Ben Eaton from Starleaton, Keith Ferrel from Cactus Imaging, Sean Kelly from Resolve and Damiean Nielson from CV
Media & Signage. The session, facilitated by Kellie Northwood, CEO of the PVCA, will cover all the tough topics, from skills and labour, to sales and marketing, to see
how businesses can build success in 2023 and beyond.
Ben Carroll of Velflex will then take
visitors through a practical session covering Top Tips for Heat Pressing Transfers, running through typical heat press vinyl and DTF applications from start to finish, including calibrating a press, transfer placement, and peel tips.
For those looking to expand their team in today’s tight employment market, the day’s final session covers
Visa and Employment Considerations when Hiring Overseas Staff. Presented by Warwick Ryan and
Simonne Pengelly from Hicksons Laywers, you’ll learn
about visa and employment contract considerations, and get answers to some FAQs including how long the process takes and what happens when the visa expires.
DAY 2 | THURSDAY 4 MAY
The second day of the seminar series will start with a session on the recent IR Law Changes presented by Business New South Wales, which will help business owners understand how to prepare to minimise any adverse impacts.
Good people are a company’s greatest asset – but finding and keeping the right people seems to be a common challenge in today’s climate. In the day’s second session, consultant Sandra Duarte will provide you with practical strategies on How to Attract & Retain Top Talent so you can succeed, grow and take your business to the next level.
After lunch, visitors can gain another fascinating insight into the minds of business and industry experts with Top Tips from Industry Leaders. Sandra Duarte will stay around to sit on this panel, together with Keith Ferrell from Cactus Imaging and Ben Carrol from Velflex, to reflect on what makes their businesses work, what they consider important, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.
Day 2 will finish up with a practical session on Colour Management – a fundamental factor in achieving quality regardless of methodology or media.
DAY 3 | FRIDAY 5 MAY
The final day of seminar sessions will provide visitors with the opportunity to ask any burning questions
about Leasing & Business Finance – an area which can seem complicated, but is critical to business success. Robyn Frampton from Visual Connections will interview expert Marian Taggart
Holland from EcoLease, to find out the secrets of success...and attendees will have a chance
to ask their own questions.
This will be followed at lunch time by a perennial favourite, a Wrapping Session where experts will demonstrate how to get the very best
results. before Ben Carroll from Velflex returns for an afternoon session on
how to Expand Your Offering with Heat Transfer. Garment customisation is one of
the fastest-growing sectors of the print industry and the perfect way to expand your offering. In this session,
you’ll find out how to use existing skills to introduce a lucrative revenue stream with minimal investment.
