lives with an invincible attitude. Breaking the Gender Code is about assessing that and looking to how we can equip ourselves with skills to feel empowered, recognising our contributions and feeling valued in what we do. I think it is topical.
“Our Women in Print community will be able to walk away from the events with skills they can start using immediately.”
Kellie Northwood, CEO, Print & Visual Communication Association and Hon Secretary, Women in Print Board concurs, saying “Breaking the Gender Code is all about how we address those niggles in our minds, challenging our value and worth. The research shows women suffer from imposter syndrome’ in higher numbers than men, and also carry higher burn-out statistics. Recognising what the code is, how we can address it and what tools we can use to ensure we use what we have to achieve what we actually want, is something I am fascinated to share and experience with the entire Women in Print community.”
As Women in Print expands across the nation, the sponsorship support continues with confirmed Partner sponsors for the breakfast series being long-standing supporters Cactus Imaging, Media Super, IVE Group, Heidelberg and the PVCA.

The Women in Print annual Breakfast Series will enjoy its thirteenth year in 2023, and will celebrate by expanding
into Hobart for the first time. Keynote speaker at all events will be Danielle Dobson; she will headline the series exploring her book ‘Breaking the Gender Code’. We sat down with the Women in Print team to find out more about this year’s speaker and the series content.
Who is Danielle Dobson?
Danielle Dobson is a speaker, author, facilitator, mother and a certified practising accountant with extensive corporate experience. Dobson wanted to make a difference an
build a deep understanding across male and female roles and influence across the professional world. She began a two-year research piece, interviewing male and female leaders on their coping mechanisms under pressure, and how this applies to their professional work-life balance.
What is the focus?
Dobson developed her findings into a book, Breaking the Gender Code, which will be the topic for discussion. Exploring questions such as, ‘Why do you feel like you are never doing and being enough?’ and ‘Where is the off switch, and how is this affecting you everyday life?’
Dobson talks about unpacking the Gender Code and how this code can hold back women in their professional and personal lives. The unpacking process explores the statistics across female internalisation of pressure and performance in a different,
and more destructive way than
their male peers. Some of the
key take-outs from Dobson’s research question how women put themselves in a box and how they can learn to break out of it. The programme is about empowering women to build tools on how they can use what they already have, to get more out of what they really want in life, in business, and in everyday circumstances. Just like Dobson’s own professionalism and her career-savvy mentality, she’s here to help women build their own career pathways, by breaking the Gender Code and avoiding burn out.
Why this speaker?
Men and women do carry different psychology into the workplace. Ensuring men and women’s strengths are developed and weaknesses supported, ensures
a stronger industry and more successful future leaders. Women in Print
is consistently looking for content specific to our women across the industry, and the wider Women in Print community.
This content resonated with the Patrons and Board across multiple levels.
Susan Heaney, chair, Women
in Print, says, “Often women feel they are failing if they reach out for support and approach their professional
