Ngobeng is one of the traditions of the Palembang people that shows

togetherness. This tradition is usually done at special events such as weddings,

thanksgiving events, and community gatherings.
In this tradition, the host puts the main food, usually “nasi minyak”, in a big
basket in the middle. Other dishes like side dishes and vegetables are placed

around it. The guests sit on the floor in a circle and eat together. This creates a

warm and friendly atmosphere. After eating, a bowl of water is passed around
so the guests can wash their hands.

If there are more than eight guests, the host prepares more food circles
for different groups. This helps the guests reach the food easily and makes sure

the food is enough for everyone. The Ngobeng tradition is a valuable heritage
from the ancestors of Palembang. It teaches people to keep good relationships,

build a strong sense of brotherhood, and respect guests.
