Songket

Palembang Songket is a traditional cloth from Palembang, South Sumatra.
It is one of the cultural heritages of the Palembang people and is still used today.
This cloth is well known for its beautiful patterns and the use of gold threads.
Palembang Songket is made by weaving fabric and adding gold threads
into it. The gold threads make the cloth look shiny, elegant, and special. The cloth
usually has simple patterns, such as flower and geometric motifs. These motifs
make Palembang Songket look unique and attractive.
The are several types of Palembang Songket, including Songket Lepus,
Songket Tabur, Songket Limar, and Songket Bunga-Bunga. Each type has different
patterns and uses different amounts of gold thread. Some types use a lot of gold
thread, while others use less.
In Palembang society, songket is commonly worn at special events, such as
weddings and traditional ceremonies. People wear Palembang Songket to show
respect for tradition and to keep their culture alive. Today, Palembang Songket is
not only a traditional cloth but also a symbol of cultural pride.
