The Lincoln Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers would like to acknowledge

The Engineering Society of York:
The Engineering Society of York, otherwise known as ESOY, finds it’s humble origins in the fall of 1909,
when H.A. Delano, W.L. Craver, and H. Fink considered organizing a technical society “to exchange
thoughts and ideas on technical engineering articles” of their time. In the spring of 1910, their mission
had been broadened to “advance engineering knowledge and practice and to maintain a high standard
of professional procedure in all respects”, per the group’s ratification of their Constitution and By-Laws.
In late 1956, the late Edgar P Kable, 1929 Society President, provided the seed to establish within the
society a $100,000 scholarship trust and educational purposes fund, known today as the Kable Fund.
Since the establishment of the Kable Fund, over $1,000,000 has been loaned to York area students who
required financial assistance to further and advanced technical education. In addition, a portion of the
Kable Fund for several years was allocated for the purchase of technical books for many libraries
including the Martin Memorial Library.
It is an established practice by The Society of offering awards for achievement in the study of science to
students of York Area High Schools, York College, and the Pennsylvania State University—York Campus.
Awards have also been provided by the Society in recent years for leading entries in the York Area
Science Fair.
Today, with over 100 members, the society participates in monthly tours of local companies and lectures
delivered by key individuals of the industry and community.
