October - Donated $100,000 to the Children's Defense Fund,
the Children's Diabetes Foundation, the Atlanta Project, and
the Boys and Girls Clubs of Newark, New Jersey.
December The Gorbachev Foundation airlifted 60,000
doses of children's vaccines to Tblisi, Georgia.
Operation Christmas Child gave to children in former Yu-
goslavia over 100,000 shoebox gifts of toys, small gifts and let-
ters donated by children in the U.K.
In 1994:
January - In conjunction with Unihealth and the Los Ange-
les Immunization Coalition, vaccines were provided to chil-
dren made homeless by the Los Angeles earthquake, with Dis-
covery Toys donating hundreds of toys to the children in the
immunization drive.
Eighty-five thousand dollars was provided through Heal
L.A. to earthquake relief efforts by non-profit organizations
dedicated to aiding families with long-term recovery, includ-
ing the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center, Casa Rutilio Grande,
Clinica Para Las Americas, Families in New Directions, Meet-
ing Each Need With Dignity, Proyecto Esperanza, Pueblo
Nuevo, and the Vaughn Street Family Center.
In association with General Electric, Lever Brothers, and
Surf Wash, donated washers, dryers and soap to 25 non-profit
organizations to provide free laundry services to families af-
fected by the earthquake.
Heal the World L.A. board member Edward James Olmos
provided education about earthquake safety to quake victims
in shelters.
With the Salvation Army, treated over 400 homeless chil-
dren and parents to a day at Universal Studios.
Spring-Summer: Heal L.A. Immunization and Mentoring
Initiatives supported by visits by Kriss Kross to the George C.
Page Children's Hospital Community Health Center and Raven
Simone and Bryton McClure to the Bancroft Middle School.
Summer: In conjunction with the Los Angeles Unified
School District, Youth Services, the I Have A Dream Founda-
