Rule 8. Always capitalize the first word in a complete quotation, even midsentence.
Example: Lamarr said, "The case is far from over, and we will win."
Rule 9. Capitalize the names of specific course titles, but not general academic
subjects.
Examples:
I must take history and Algebra 101.
He has a double major in European economics and philosophy.
Rule 10. Capitalize art movements.
Example: I like Surrealism, but I never understood Abstract Expressionism.
Numbers
Rule 1. Spell out all numbers beginning a sentence.
Examples:
Twenty-three hundred sixty-one victims were
hospitalized.
Nineteen fifty-six was quite a year.
Note: The Associated Press Stylebook makes an
exception for years.
Example: 1956 was quite a year.
Rule 2a. Hyphenate all compound numbers from twenty-one through ninety-nine.
Examples:
Forty-three people were injured in the train wreck.
Twenty-seven of them were hospitalized.
