In 2018 we embarked on our first international venture to China, where we were the headline sponsor of the first ever cancer conference between the UK and Chinese governments.
At the four-day conference there were 1,000 delegates over four days. Delegates included a mixture of oncologists, senior management within hospitals and representatives from healthcare organisations who were looking to collaborate with UK hospitals and healthcare groups.
As well as major sponsorship of the event itself, nine of our leading consultants presented, including Prof Goldstone CBE, Prof Schmid and Dr Arkenau.
Jane Lynch, Lead Nurse Manager at The Harley Street Clinic, also presented on nursing as a clinical specialism. Nursing in China is perceived
very differently to the UK; Chinese nurses are not trained to anywhere near the same level of expertise as they are in the UK and doctors are responsible for managing almost every aspect of their patient’s care.
We have admitted our first patient as a result of the conference, held several collaborative education events with Chinese organisations that we met whilst at the event and our Head of Business Development, Nicole Wassink, is very close to being able to launch international MDT reviews for Chinese patients.
In 2019, we will be...
• Developing the international hub of the HCA UK website for all international patients
to manage their customer journey more effectively.
• Targeting direct referrals from the Chinese market through WeChat Intelligent Healthcare (where 110m Chinese users accessed health information last year).
• Implementing a regular communication to international insurers and agents to facilitate business development and retention of these valuable clients.
