In sentence (2), the verb ‘had eaten ’ shows that the action had been finished
before another was commenced in the past . It is said to be in the past perfect tense .
In sentence (3), the verb‘shall have eaten ’shows that the action will be finished
in the future before another action takes place. It is said to be in the future perfect
tense.
