Our History
In the 1940s, the Bridgeport Community was actively seeking someone to open a Jewish Funeral Home. Until that time, the Jewish community utilized local establishments which did not necessarily cater to our customs and needs. In 1948, Abraham Green borrowed the money necessary to open the A.L. Green Funeral Home on Grand Street in Bridgeport.
For nearly 50 years, the original facility served the Greater Bridgeport Jewish community, but a change was necessary. As time progressed and Samuel Green took over the day to day managing of Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, he made his vision a reality by moving the funeral home to its current location on Beach Road in Fairfield.
Now with Jonathan continuing their traditions, three generations of the Green family have dedicated themselves to serving the Jewish community through the first and only Jewish Funeral Home in Fairfield County.
About Us
The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home is an independently owned family operated chapel serving the Greater Fairfield County Jewish Community since 1948. Now in its 3rd generation, our modern facility is conveniently located in Fairfield center.
Our beautifully landscaped facility opened in 1997 after being located in Bridgeport for nearly 50 years. The front portion of the building facing Beach Road was a sea captain’s house dating back from 1850. Great effort was taken to maintain the character and charm of the original structure while at the same time modernizing and adding to the building to meet the needs of our community.
With over 100 years of combined experience, our caring and dedicated staff is readily available to provide our families with the compassion and attention to detail that has been the hallmark of our reputation.
