Welcome
FROM THE CONFERENCE CHAIRS
Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the Pacific Northwest! We are pleased that you are joining us to take part in the
ASME 2017 Summer Heat Transfer Conference in Bellevue, Washington, during July 9 – 12, 2017.
We are pleased to have your participation in this exciting event, which offers excellent
opportunity to share your research and network with international heat transfer community.
The technical content of the conference is broad in scope and deep in content. It offers a vibrant
program with several symposiums, panels and technical tours. The conference plenary sessions
include presentations from 2016 Max Jacob and D Q Kern award winners. Over 350 papers and
presentations are scheduled in 86 technical sessions. Several keynote presentations, panel and
workshop sessions are scheduled in Energy Systems, Computational Heat Transfer, and
Electronic Cooling and Heat Transfer Equipment tracks in addition to the ones featured at the
mini-symposiums in honor of Yogi Goswami and Frank Harlow.
Special events at the conference are the Welcome Reception on Sunday evening and the
Conference Banquet on Monday evening. In addition, tours of the Boeing Commercial Aircraft
facility and the Heat Transfer Laboratories at the University of Washington are offered on
Wednesday, July 12.
A highlight of the Conference is the Stuart W. Churchill Memorial Symposium, “Advances in
Transport Phenomena: Bridging Heat and Mass Transfer”. This Symposium is organized jointly by
AIChE and the ASME Heat Transfer Division in honor and memory of the late Professor Stuart W.
Churchill, NAE, AIChE Fellow, to celebrate his life, legacy, and the many years of service and
contributions in combustion, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics, which have bridged research in
both chemical and mechanical engineering applications. This symposium also include two
keynote presentations.
The many contributions of both the volunteer members of the ASME Heat Transfer Division and
the ASME professional staff were invaluable in organizing the many aspects of the conference.
We specifically acknowledge Mary Jakubowski, Stacy Cooper of ASME and Kristine Chin of
AIChE. We also thank track and session organizers for supporting the conference technical
program.
We note that next year’s Summer Heat Transfer conference will be supplanted by the 16th
International Heat Transfer Conference to be held in Beijing on August 10 – 15, 2018. We urge
your participation in that Conference and look forward to being with you again at the Summer
Heat Transfer Conference in 2019.
