Welcome
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our distinct pleasure to welcome you to Columbus, Ohio on
the event of the 2015 ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Conference being held at Downtown Hilton,
October 27-30, 2015. Columbus is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S., with a vibrant blend of arts
and culture; a creative culinary, fashion, music and entertainment scene; exciting collegiate and profession-
al sports; and an open, entrepreneurial spirit. With a burgeoning downtown, lively urban districts and a
diverse array of welcoming neighborhoods, it’s a great place to visit – we hope that you will find the time to
explore our Capital City. A welcome reception is hosted by The Ohio State University Department of
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, in the Peter and Clara Scott Laboratory, on Tuesday evening.
The technical program of DSCC2015 reflects and continues to maintain the strong tradition of a quality set
by the previous conferences and we are privileged to be a part of the task of organizing this flagship ASME
conference for the Dynamic Systems and Controls community. It comprises close to 300 contributed and
invited session papers distributed over 53 sessions. In addition, this year’s conference will include three
workshops on Tuesday and there are four special sessions to be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
Thanks to the tireless work of our Technical Committees, 17 invited sessions have been organized, and
together with the contributed sessions have made it possible to assemble a cutting-edge program that
covers key application areas such as Automotive and Transportation, Aerospace, Biomedical, Energy
Systems, Robotics, Manufacturing, Natural Gas and Drilling, as well as the more fundamental aspects of the
discipline of Dynamic Systems and Control.
The conference features three keynote presentations on the three days of the conference in the form of
two plenary lectures and one Nyquist Lecture. On the first day, we have the pleasure of a plenary speech
by Dr. Kevin Wise of Boeing discussing the state of the art and future vision on applying Adaptive and
Robust Control algorithms to Aerospace and Oil and Gas applications. Then on the second day, Prof.
Miroslav Krstic of University of California, San Diego, will present the Nyquist Lecture on extremum seeking
and its applications. Finally on the third day, Dr. Lonnie Love presents a plenary lecture on Manufacturing
and Innovation.
A high quality conference of this size could not have been possible but for the tireless and selfless
contributions by the enthusiastic and energetic volunteers of our community, aided by the productive Sincerely,
ASME staff. We recognize the members of the Organizing committee: David Bevly, conference editorial
board; Azim Eskandarian, invited sessions; Dumitru Caruntu, Workshops and Special Sessions, Krishnas-
wamy Srinivasan, Industry and Exhibits; Marcello Canova, student and young member activities; and Rifat
Sipahi, Publications and Publicity. We are grateful to all the TC Chairs and members as well as to the
Associate Editors of the Conference Editorial Board for their valuable assistance, and to ASME staff
members Erin Dolan and Stacey Cooper.
Of course, this conference and all other activities within the DSC Division community are possible because Giorgio Rizzoni
of the volunteer effort of DSCD Executive Committee. We thank outgoing Chair Andrew Alleyne, Robert Conference General Chair
Landers, Division Secretary, and the rest of the Executive Committee for their leadership and support.
Finally, we thank the entire ASME DSC community, especially those who are attending this conference and
making this conference a success. We wish you an enjoyable and productive experience at this DSCC15.
