Partner Skit: Meet Eliza Lusher
Lusher: Hello, I’m Eliza Lusher, have you heard about me?
Student: Yes I have! You were a nurse.
Lusher: I nursed over 125 people during two outbreaks of yellow fever
here in Bermuda.
Student: Wow. How did you not get sick?
Lusher: I did get sick. Some suspect that I died of the yellow fever since I died so
young, at 40 years of age.
Student: Did you do anything else?
Lusher: I didn’t, but I wish I had. I wanted to go to the Crimean War to help nurse
soldiers, but the British government refused and I could not afford to go
by myself.
Student: That’s a shame. You were an amazing woman who nursed many sick
soldiers who couldn’t help themselves.
