Guidelines for Budgeting a Full Academic Year at NJC
Outlined here is a guideline for budgeting the costs associated with a full academic year at NJC. Mandatory trips ensure that students have a good measure of travel ahead. Students may supplement their experience by choosing from the list of optional school trips and organizing independent travel excursions.
Optional travel is optional! It is rare for a student to go on every trip; instead, they choose from a wide variety of local excursions, trips integrated with the curriculum and others that pique their interests. It is common for students to select one Model UN competition in addition to the school-organized trips that meet their interests and budgets. For the December holidays, students must travel home or to other destinations.
Independent travel is very cost-effective for students because they are able to travel in small groups and by train and stay in reputable, budget-conscious youth hostels or inns. Exploring the neighbouring countries of Switzerland, or other cities within Switzerland—including ski destinations—are common independent travel options. The major cities of Europe are accessible within a few hours by train. Students may organize up to three independent travel weekends per semester.
