Place quotation marks around direct quotations in the following
sentences and add commas where needed. Two of the sentences are

indirect quotations that do not require quotation marks.

1. The angry woman said My appointment was for two-thirty, and I

have been waiting for an hour.

2. The veterinarian said Puddles was improving but should remain

hospitalized for at least two more days.

3. Every work week should be a four-day week said Carla.

4. When her children cleaned the entire house and mowed the

lawn, Paula said it was the best Mother’s Day gift she had ever

received.

5. Did you say this was thyme? said Paul. It looks like a weed to
me.
