Reading at the College Level

1 Stay on top of your college reading

                                      assignments.

The reading you will do in college is much more demanding than the

reading you have done in high school or for your own enjoyment. In

college classes, reading is often assigned as a backdrop to a lecture

or class activity rather than as the main material for discussion.

Reading assignments are often long and may be difficult. How is a

college student to cope? The six tips that follow will help you stay on

until the last minute. Too often, assignments that are put off are

assignments that are never done. By beginning your reading

immediately, you can break it into manageable, digestible
                        chunks.

                    2. Preview the material. The human brain likes the familiar.

That’s why learning often builds on previous knowledge and

involves comparing the familiar to the unfamiliar. Previewing
