Correcting Problems with Pronouns
Underline and correct the pronoun reference, agreement, or point of
view error in each of the following sentences.
1. Carlos bought a new GPS and camera because he would need
it on his road trip.
2. “I don’t care if everybody else disobeys their curfew,” said Li’s
mother. “You will be home by midnight.”
3. “I need a better job,” said Brandon. “This economy is so bad
that you can’t make ends meet.”
4. Ed watched the children in fascination. You could sense their
excitement as they waited for the show to begin.
5. Without fear, the skateboarder pushed forward from the top of
the steepest ramp, which terrified some of their audience.
6. Neither of the men was sure that they could fill in for Emanuel
on Saturday night.
7. Ellen’s new boyfriend advised, “Don’t turn your back on your
old friends now that you have made some new ones.” Ellen
said she would never turn her back on it.
