Parallel Structure in Sentences
2 Revise nonparallel constructions in
sentences.
In sentences, items given equal emphasis should be parallel in
structure whenever possible. These items include words, phrases, and
clauses in pairs or lists. Look at the following examples of nonparallel
and parallel structure within sentences.

Structure
The chef chopped the garlic and then was sprinkling it on the
pizza.
The chef chopped the garlic and then sprinkled it on the pizza.
Alberto is sometimes late for class because he has to wait for
elevators, looking for access ramps, and navigate his wheelchair
through crowded hallways.
