Commas to Join Items in a
Series
2 Use commas to join items in a series.
When a series of three or more words, phrases, or clauses is
connected with and or or, place a comma after each item except the
last one. The final comma goes before and or or.
Real-World Writing
In journalism, it is becoming customary to omit the comma
before and, or, or nor when items are joined in a series.
Academic usage is more traditional and favors keeping the final
comma.
