Commas in Names and Dates











                             6        Use commas correctly in names and dates.










               When a professional title or family designation follows a name, it is set
               off with commas.




                       The woman’s name tag read, “Judy Smith, L.P.N.”




                       Raymond J. Johnson, C.P.A., rented an office on Second Street.



               When you write the month, day, and year, a comma goes between the

               day and year.




                       The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776.




               When you write just the month and year, no comma is used.



                       The Declaration of Independence was signed in July 1776.
