Chapter 10 • Organizational Communications

WIRELESS The use of cellular phones is growing to dominate electronic verbal
communication. New cellular devices allow not only voice communication, but
also short message service (SMS) or text messaging, the sending of images, and
Internet access. In the first three months of 2006, 235 billion text messages were
sent worldwide. It was expected that by 2007 there would be more than 1 billion
wireless devices able to access the Internet. Cellular devices allow a business-
person to use verbal, written, and nonverbal communication.
