RYAN DUNGEY
Ryan Dungey is only one podium away from making it 30 consecutive Supercross races on the box.
The Red Bull KTM rider is brimming with confidence after coming off two consecutive wins and a controversial 3rd place in which he almost lost his podium streak to the discretion of the AMA. At the Detroit Supercross, Dungey was docked two positions and demoted
to the lowest step on the podium after jumping on the red cross flag. This marked the first time in Supercross history that a rider has been stripped of a race victory after the checkered flag has been flown. Understandably, Dungey was absolutely livid with this decision by the AMA - a decision that could potentially have cost him in excess of $100,000 when win bonuses are taken into consideration. The Minnesotan has been riding with an elevated determination ever since he had that win taken from him, racking off wins in Santa Clara and Indianapolis on two completely different tracks. The last two races have been some of the most closely contested battles of the
year in the 450 class; Ken Roczen has been stepping up his game and challenging Dungey tooth and nail until the end of the race, but Dungey has come out on top in both occasions. The riders were faced with the most technically challenging track of the year last week in Indianapolis and the two 450 points leaders completely separated themselves from the rest of the field. The two of them battled side by side, briefly swapped positions, and forced one another into mistakes as a result of the rutted terrain. Ultimately, Dungey stood on the top step of the podium again and 3rd placed Jason Anderson ended up an astounding 30 seconds behind the lead. Clearly, Roczen and Dungey have sent a message to everyone else in the 450 class, but the young German is tired of looking at the exhaust of his old bike. Will St. Louis be another weekly installment in the Dungey Show?
