From that point on, Dungey rode to the checkered flag with absolutely no competition and secured himself a spot in the main event in the only the second semi that he’s had to race
this year. No matter the gate pick, Dungey executed the exact same start in the main event ahead of his close rival Ken Roczen. The crowd was on their feet in anticipation of a battle similar to the one last weekend in Indy and they weren’t disap- pointed. It had a similar vibe to the race one week ago; Roczen was able to stalk Dungey in a seemingly comfortable fashion, take different lines to stay out of the roost of the KTM, and make up time when he wanted to mount a charge. At the halfway point in the race, Roczen decided to use one of those different lines to his advantage after the first triple and was able to get a run on Dungey up the inside of the next turn. Dungey squared up the RCH Suzuki and they jumped side by side over the next triple only to repeat the same maneuver again. Dungey jumped through the main line of the whoops while Roczen attempted to hammer them on the outside, therefore losing his momentum on the way out and forfeiting Dungey the position by way of the preferred line. A couple of laps later, Roczen charged a little too quickly into the corner after the finish line and tucked the front, giving Dungey his 30th podium in succession and another victory on the trot.
