GRITMOTO • APRIL.18.16
NICK WEY
In his own words, Nick Wey is “one bad dude”. As the Commander in Chief of the Michigan Mafia Moto Crew, Wey has been at this whole supercross thing for nearly twenty years now and continues to test the limits of age, body and skill. Turning professional in 1997, the wicked style and flair of team Two Seven continues to grace the fans of racing with his appearances, despite
the fact that he had announced his retirement before the season began began. Being a true racer
at heart, Wey couldn’t resist the opportunity of returning to the scene with a fresh bike deal from Team Tedder, support from long-time sponsors and the desire to race while he still can. Just as Kobe bowing out of basketball may change the face of the game, Wey’s absences have caused the special sparkle of supercross to dull a little bit. He’s always been a fan favorite and will forever be remembered as being a true definition of the word “grit” in moto. From factory to satellite, privateer to team owner and operator, Wey has experienced the ins-and-outs of professional racing, never ceasing the dream to remain aggressive. Some may consider Wey’s return a bad decision, while most say “Hell yeah”, giving him a nod and smile while he motor’s into the main event. Since returning five rounds ago, he’s posted points in the last four and sat 24th in points before the first gate was dropped in St. Louis. His best finish being a 14th, Wey needed any sort of Missouri-magic he could find so the green #27 can make his way closer to the front leaders and the next level of his career.
