ROUNDS DOWN...
It’s not out of the ordinary when the defending champion is the clear-cut title favorite the following year, but title favorite is almost an understatement when it comes to describing Eli Tomac’s chances at the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Moto-
cross 450 crown. The level of invincibility surrounding the Kawasaki standout isn’t quite what it was in the days of Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart when they completed perfect 24 - 0 seasons, but Tomac is clearly the fastest and most complete package in the premier division this season. He’s already proven his speed throughout the introductory rounds of the twelve race calendar, winning
the first five motos back in 2015 at the end of his stint with Geico Honda. The Colorado native ended up crashing the very next moto and suffered a season ending shoulder injury, but he’s shown that
he’s hard to beat when he keeps it on two wheels. Furthermore, Tomac is in peak form as he finally found a consistent level of comfortability with the new 2018 KX450F throughout the second half of last year’s outdoor nationals -- not to mention that he’s won half of the Monster Energy Supercross races in ‘17 and ‘18. Although the talent pool in the 450 class isn’t as deep as it was one year prior, there are still some strong podium contenders on the gate. Defending 450SX Champion Jason Anderson, Marvin Musquin, Ken Roczen, Justin Barcia, and Blake Baggett are all eager to prove that they’ve got what it takes to steal the number one plate off of Eli Tomac’s KX450F -- who will rise to the occasion?
